James Powley is a UK-based film composer specialising in narrative-led orchestral music, with piano at the heart of his sound, working across film and media.

His music is shaped by story and emotion, combining expressive piano writing with rich orchestral and delicate string textures to support storytelling on screen.

 

Since graduating from Leeds Conservatoire, James has composed music for a range of film and television projects, with work screening at international film festivals across the UK, Europe, and South America.

He has collaborated with professional orchestras, choirs, and soloists, including the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra and the Oxford Millennium Orchestra, bringing his music to life through live performance and recording.
